A significant contribution to the development of Serbian biblical studies has been made by authors who were not theologians by vocation, and classical philologists in particular stood out among them. This is true today, as it was true at the beginning of the development of our academic theology at the beginning of the last century. One of the classicists who also dealt with biblical scripture is prof. Veselin Čajkanović (1881–1946). In his opus, the present author has found eight texts devoted to biblical themes. Most of those essays are not known to Serbian theologians today, and those that are, in the present author’s opinion, have not been evaluated adequately. The paper presents all Čajkanović’s contributions to biblical studies in detail. The conclusion reached is that this distinguished Serbian intellectual and researcher of antiquity sporadically, but very conscientiously and thoroughly engaged in biblical studies, following and critically adopting the results of contemporary international biblical studies.
